Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is a public health strategy aimed at minimizing the negative consequences associated with drug use.
Harm reduction isn’t only for people moving toward abstinence-based recovery, it is to save lives among people who use drugs (even if they have no plan to stop) and mitigate the harm associated with drug use, stigma, and drug policy. By offering resources like naloxone, test strips, and condoms, harm reduction empowers individuals to make safer choices while respecting their autonomy. This approach is crucial in supporting recovery, preventing overdoses, and fostering a compassionate community environment.
To decrease overdose deaths in Milwaukee County, Samad’s House seeks to increase access to harm reduction resources on Milwaukee’s north side through overdose education, overdose detection services, and naloxone distribution, as well as drug check education and community distribution.
